Tree removal
How a tree comes down
- 01
Look at the tree and the space
The height, the lean, the state of the wood, and everything it could land on: the house, a wall, a shed, wires, the neighbour's side.
- 02
Felled or dismantled
With a clear drop zone a tree can be felled in one piece. In a tight garden it's dismantled from the top down, a section at a time.
- 03
Branches and sections down
Limbs are cut and dropped into the clear space, or lowered on ropes where nothing can be dropped.
- 04
The trunk
Last, the trunk is brought down in rounds to a low stump.
Good to know
Worth knowing first
- If a tree has a tree preservation order on it, or you're in a conservation area, the council has to agree before work is done. Ask your county council if you're not sure.
- A tree on a boundary may be partly your neighbour's. A word with them before the job saves a row after it.
- A tree near a power line is a job for ESB Networks first (1800 372 999).
